2026 Australian 29er National Championships

Sandy Bay Sailing Club is excited to be hosting the 2026 Australian 9er National Championships in conjunction with the Australian 9er Association.

The event will take place on the River Derwent between January 3rd – 9th 2026.

At the Opening Dinner on 3 January, we are delighted to welcome a very special guest speaker back to Sandy Bay Sailing Club. Dervla Duggan began her sailing journey here a little later than most, discovering the sport through school sailing at the age of 14.

Teaming up with Alice Buchanen in the 29er, Dervla quickly made her mark—qualifying for their first Youth World Championships only six months after joining forces. The pair went on to compete at two Youth Worlds before Dervla progressed into the 49erFX through the Australian Sailing Futures Program.

Fresh from the recent 49erFX World Championships, we are excited to welcome Dervla home to Sandy Bay Sailing Club.
