Meet our SBSC Coaches

Ben Perkins – Coach Coordinator

Ben has been sailing for 4 years, travelling around the world from Greece to Croatia to teach sailing and windsurfing to beginners and advanced sailors alike. His favourite course to teach is a intermediate windsurf course, and you’ll catch him out windsurfing around the club whenever he can!

James Gough – Coach

James has 4 years of coaching experience with us at SBSC, specialising in making sailing fun. James has sailed a variety of classes at our club, starting in Cadets before moving to 29ers. More recently he is a windsurfer, wingfoiler, and Waszp sailor and instructor.

Charlie Pavlides – Coach

Charlie has been sailing for 11 years, starting in an Optimist before moving to a 29er. He now races the IQ foil.
He has been coaching for 5 years and loves coaching Optis, from Tackers to open fleet. You’ll also catch him teaching windsurfing and IQ foil.

Sam Hooper – Instructor

All of our coaches, instructors and assistant instructors are qualified via the Australian Sailing framework.  In addition, before being able to work at Sandy Bay Sailing Club, all assistant instructors must be at least 14 years of age and the must have completed at least 40 hours of volunteer instructing under the guidance of one of our more senior instructors or coaches.
