Boats We Sail
Optimists
The Optimist is the world’s most popular sailing dinghy for kids up to 15 years old. It’s a stable, single-handed boat that’s perfect for learning the basics and building confidence on the water. At SBSC, we offer Green, Intermediate, and Open Optimist fleets, providing a supportive pathway from first sail to national competition. Many of our top sailors start their journey in an Opti — it’s where the fun (and friendships) begin. Learn more here.

International Cadets
The International Cadet is a double-handed sailing dinghy (which means it takes two people to sail it) designed specifically for young sailors aged 7 to 17. With its unique blend of performance and accessibility, the Cadet offers an ideal entry point into the world of competitive sailing. The boat is small and manageable, yet robust enough to provide a fast and exciting sailing experience. Learn more here.
29er
The 29er is a high-performance skiff designed for speed, excitement, and teamwork. Sailed by two people, it features a trapeze and asymmetric spinnaker, making it an ideal boat for teenagers ready to step up to faster, more technical racing. It’s an Olympic pathway class that rewards commitment and coordination, and our 9er fleet is one of the fastest-growing at SBSC. Learn more here.

WASZP
The WASZP is a single-handed foiling dinghy that literally flies above the water on hydrofoils. It’s one-design and built for accessibility, offering a safe, thrilling and fast way to experience foiling. The WASZP class at SBSC suits older teens and adults looking for a fresh challenge, and it’s gaining popularity with those interested in cutting-edge racing and international regattas. Pacers
Through a partnership with Australian Sailing, we have six brand new Pacers in the SBSC Fleet. Primarily used for School Team Sailing in Term 1 and 4, they are also used in many of our Learn to Sail courses, in particular our Adult Learn to Sail. They’re also used in our Adult Pacer Racing series.
Windsurfing, Foiling
Windsurfing blends sailing and board sports, with classes available for juniors, youth, and adults. At SBSC, we support both traditional one-design boards and foiling boards like the iQFoil — the new Olympic windsurfing class. It’s fast, physical, and super fun, offering another exciting pathway for sailors who enjoy board sports or are looking for something different from dinghy sailing. Learn more here.

IlCA
The ILCA (formerly Laser) is a single-handed dinghy raced worldwide and known for being simple, strict one-design, and highly competitive. With multiple rig sizes (ILCA 4, 6, and 7), it caters to youth, women, and men at all levels. It’s a class that rewards fitness, tactics, and perseverance — perfect for those looking to challenge themselves and take their sailing to the next level. Lean more here.
