Club Pennant Racing
Sandy Bay Sailing Club runs weekly pennant racing on Saturday afternoons during term 1 and term 4. We welcome most off the beach classes, including Optimists, International Cadets, 29ers, 49ers, IQ Foils, WASZP’s and ILCA’s. Club membership includes pennant racing, however, members are requested to register (free) with their boat name, number and crew (if required). Only helms need to enter.
Members of other clubs are also very welcome to enter one, some or all of our weekly pennant racing for a small fee. We would love to see as many sailors on the water each week as possible!
We usually run three races each week, with the cooperation of the weather, in the beautiful Derwent River. Boats are launched off the beach on Nutgrove Beach outside our club. The canteen is also always open both before racing for a yummy lunch and “world famous”* chicken burgers. After racing, relax on the lawn and enjoy the view over the Derwent with drinks and snacks available for purchase.
For those new to sailing, during the pennant series, boats race each week, accumulating points across the season. The goal is to be the boat with the most race wins and be crowned the winner of the pennant at the end of season prize night.
Pennant racing is generally the first step for new sailors after Green Fleet. If you have any questions at all, please just ask one the committee or one of our other volunteers around the club.
(* OK, maybe not world famous, but definitely famous in the Hobart sailing world)
